About Doug Barr
Douglas J. Barr, a native San Diegan, is a Teacher, Disc Jockey and Photographer with a passion for people, music and visual arts. His earliest recollections of taking an interest in photography go back to his childhood as Doug recounts being fascinated by the stunning images shown in National Geographic, and how they inspired dreams of traveling afar to discover new and exotic places. Doug’s youthful memories also include his father influencing his interest as his father was always carrying around an old school Canon that used film, taking pictures everywhere they went. While attending The University of Santa Cruz, Doug resolved to become a teacher as a way to give back to his community and graduated with a BA. Degree in History. While attending The University, he opted to take a photography class even though as a struggling student couldn’t afford a “real” camera. Eager and determined to learn the art of photography, Doug completed the class using cameras that were “point and shoot” and “disposable”. During the weekdays Doug works as a Substitute Teacher at his old High School, where he enjoys working with kids, and an amazing staff that even includes his former football coach. On the weekends Doug DJ’s at local hot spots like Altitude Sky lounge, The Waterfront, and Saddle Bar and has even worked as a Resident D.J. at the Foundation Room in Las Vegas. When he’s not working at the school or spinning records, Doug is not easy to track down as he’s usually out treasure hunting with his camera, exploring new places to capture nature’s epic beauty and moments in time. He is absolutely passionate about all of his work, and is always looking for ways to improve his game by staying educated on the latest information and digital technology. Doug is a positively upbeat guy that loves life and believes you can achieve anything you put your heart into. His gentle and uplifting way of being make him a magnet to the masses. Doug is a creative visionary, who when behind the camera exudes depth, patience, and devotion which naturally conspire to inspiring images that speak to the soul where words cannot.
